"when one door closes another opens"
2021 was a year of transitions and the saying "When one door closes, another opens" could not be more apt.
Almost two years of Covid hibernation allowed us to examine many doors and consider our "What's Next". Before we could start planning new adventures, we had to close the door on a significant chapter of our lives. BlueTopaz was a part of our family for twenty-seven years, twenty of those years, she was our home base, safe haven and magic carpet. But, with Reg’s acquisition of two new knees and a major shoulder reconstruction, his surgeon suggested, working the foredeck in a seaway, might not be in his long-term, best interest.
So, in 2021, we passed her forward. |
She remains a major part of how we define ourselves and our memories of some of our favourite people, places and things. Wherever we traveled, we became known as the "BlueTopaz People". Folks might not have remembered our names but, they always remembered our vessel. There is something special about a classic yacht, something that captures the imagination of sailors and landlubbers alike: the graceful silhouette of a schooner, red sails at sunset or, maybe even, the sense of a more romantic era. Designed by Tom Colvin, she was constructed and fitted under our supervision. In all our years aboard and the many miles we travelled, she never failed to live up to and, more often than not, exceed our expectations. |
